Saving money to pay off student loans and consumer debt

Paying Off Smaller Student Loan

Reminder – always check that extra payments are credited correctly.

The state sent me a check for $1034.17 of back pay a couple of weeks ago. Being a good little Dave Ramsey follower, I sent the money to my student loan company to pay down one of my smaller loans. To apply the check to one loan in particular, I have to write the loan number in the memo portion of the check. The student loan company didn’t notice and instead applied the check to all of my loans so the smallest loan only received $65.

A phone call later and the customer service person assured me they would fix it. We’ll see.

Consumer Confidence Hits 26 Year Low

The Consumer Confidence Index has reached a 26 year low as reported by Bloomberg.com. The consumer confidence index is a method of measuring confidence in the economy by looking at how Americans are spending or saving their money. In broad strokes, the more a person is spending, the more confidence in their job stability. This is supposed to be an indicator of the confidence in the economy.

Personally, I am saving money rather than spending it because I want to eliminate all the useless stuff in my house.

Dave Ramsey is right about one thing, psychology of debt paying is important.
