Beco Butterfly I on Sale – $89.95

Becos are a soft baby carrier (no, not the Bjorn!) that generally run about $140. My SIL is having a baby and I have scoured the web for a reasonably priced, new Beco that is pretty. The search started several months ago and I just now found one.

The Martini print Beco Butterfly I is available at Little Mountain Outfitters for a reasonable $89.95 plus shipping ($12 for ground).

I had budgeted $100 for my SIL’s carrier and I came in just above at $101.95. Oh and I chose the Beco over the Ergo for my SIL because she is on the short side and from what I’ve heard shorter women do better with the Beco. Besides, it is pretty and so is my SIL.

Busy, Busy Bee

I’ve been working harder as an unemployed person than when I was employed. The job market is looking pretty limp right now. I’m sure I have more to say but first I need more coffee.

I Like Being Right

Even at the expense of the stock market. Over the weekend I told the husband that the Dow would dip below 10,000 points. He wasn’t so sure because of the bailout. Surely that would make the market go up, right? On Monday the Dow went to 9995 – just enough for me to be right, Right RIGHT!

Woman Shoots Self, Stops Foreclosure

Almost like a scene from a movie, as a sheriff showed up to start evicting 90 year old Addie Polk, shots were heard outside. A neighbor climbed up a ladder and found the homeowner had shot herself twice.

Fannie Mae has since announced it would forgive the remainder of the mortgage for Ms. Polk. So that is what it takes to stop a foreclosure.

Why You Should Always Follow Up on Job Emails

Last week I had a great conversation with a guy about a job that is perfect for me. He has a line on a position that combines my last two and very different jobs. While we were on the phone he asked me to email him a few items, my resume and writing samples. Immediately after hanging up I did and then I waited. This morning I sent a follow up email with an additional reference and the guy I emailed sent one back asking for my resume. That I sent. A week ago. So I resent it.

Follow up on job emails because sometimes spam filters or mail servers eat your emails.

Being Laid Off is Good For Ratings

Irony at My Door

Not long after I hit publish announcing that I was laid off, a man showed up at my door. He was obviously sweaty and he started in on his sob story. He told me that his van broke down and he needed $46 to get the bus back home. He wasn’t asking for a handout, but instead was asking to mow my lawn and wash my car for some cash. I just kind of smiled at him and told him that if he had asked yesterday I would have said yes but I was laid off this morning. We looked at each other for a few seconds before he laughed at his bad timing and left. We have a bunch of nice neighbors so I am sure he won’t have a hard time finding a couple jobs.

Laid Off

I was just laid off via email effective the end of the month. Sunday morning is not a great time to find these things out. There is nothing I can do until Monday when everyone returns to work. Fortunately I have a month and a half of savings and we’ve been snowballing so I can cut back on the extra payments.

Love this economy! Where is my government bailout?

WAMU – Up For Sale?

The husband told me something interesting about the election so I head to Atrios’ blog to check it out. Didn’t find that but I did see that WAMU might be shopping around for buyers. After the Dow lost 1000 points in 2 days and Merrill Lynch reported bankruptcy filings, I have to say I am *shocked* to hear WAMU is having troubles.

If the FDIC takes over WAMU, who will take over the FDIC when they go broke?

The good news is the husband put all of our 401k money in treasury bonds months ago which are now sky high.

Free Bone Marrow Registry Thru Sept 22nd

My friend’s neice is 4 years old and already had a bone marrow transplant. She was born with an immune disorder that needed to be treated immediately. Although she wasn’t a match for anyone in her family, a stranger on the bone marrow donor registry was.

I have always wanted to register just in case I was ever a match for someone looking for bone marrow but the $50 price tag for testing was kind of steep. Every few months there is a donor drive where companies pay for testing costs and all the potential donor needs to do is provide cheek swabs and some background information.

Right now, NASCAR is sponsoring a new registrants to cover the costs. You don’t even need to go in person to fill out the forms, you can do it all online and through the mail.
